Heading south

We had fun in spring lake with the family and the wonderful wedding. Stephen even finally thinks lake Michigan is cool...better than the ocean right?! But, we were yearning for the road again, so we left family and headed north. Jake and Dani were kind enough to drop us off in elk rapids after taking us to sleeping bear(really really really giant sand dunes). Harold was great and let us stay in his amazing old house, and chuck took the time to bring us there and give us some good route suggestions. Thank you all!
Anyways, we rode up the coast of lake michigan through some amazing towns (harbor springs!??) and headed through the tunnel of trees on a very cold and windy day. After mackinac we headed south for home. No UP this trip, we really didn't have the time. We will save that one for later..2011 anyone?
Interesting michigan encounters: two bald eagles within a minute of eachother, three hawks together, multiple egrets, we think a fledgling bald eagle, and beautiful national forests. Oh yeah, and all the rain for the trip. Also to note: highway almost certainly indicates the road will be dirt.

  1. We remember well the "tunnel of trees". That is one of the most beautiful biking stretches anywhere. Glad you made the northern lower circuit - such a beautiful are and great biking, except for the dirt roads, perhaps. Happy trails.
